Recent ActivityMy name is Valerie Rowe, and I am excited to be your child's learning companion this year. I have been a teacher for the past 14 years, having also taught Kindergarten, 4th grade, and most recently 2nd grade at BLPS for three years. This will be my first year here at BLES, and I am thrilled to teach your child all about Science, Health, and South Carolina History. We will be integrating reading and writing into our daily lessons as we are introduced to and master the South Carolina Curriculum Standards. There is a link on my webpage to the Standards if you would like to read more about them.
A little about me personally: I live in Leesville at Lake Murray with my husband and daughter. My daughter is in the 4th grade here this year. I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and outdoor activities; including being on the water, camping, fishing, and hunting. Yes, I am an avid deer hunter, thanks to my husband's encouragement.
Feel free to visit us or volunteer to assist with special projects and other activities throughout the year. I look forward to a fun year filled with learning.
Class Announcements What's Happening In Our Classes In Science: We have begun our unit on Earth Science. We are continueing Chapter 4 and are studying minerals and rocks. We are learning to identify rocks and classify them by three types: igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary. We will be visiting the Science Lab to do experiments and activities related to rock types. Next, we will begin studying soil, fossils, and fuels. In Social Studies: We have completed Unit 3 and the study of South Carolina's role in the Revolutionary War. We are now focusing on how our country's government was shaped due to this War and the changes that took place in South Carolina following the War. We are also learning about South Carolina Government; including the three branches, laws, and how laws are created. We are doing this to prepare for our upcoming visit to the State House. We hope to see the General Assembly in session while we are there.
